We offer a non 12 step rehab program for clients who are seeking options that are neither faith-based or spiritually-based. The “higher power” concept isn’t for everyone, so we offer options for non 12 step recovery. These options are to help clients find a way of recovery that works for them. There are many treatment options available and many professionals support alternative non 12 step rehab options.
How Are Non 12 Step Rehab Programs Different?
Most treatment providers follow the traditional 12 step model, which isn’t always effective for everyone. This form of treatment focuses on the idea that addiction to drugs and alcohol is seen as the central focus of recovery. It focuses on the addiction and works outward from it. 12 Step programs also place a high importance on finding a higher power.
Non-traditional options, such as SMART Recovery, look at recovery from a different perspective. They believe that addiction plays a large role, but that there are other underlying issues that heavily influence the problem and need to be addressed. These alternative options do not involve any concept of a “higher power”. They place credit completely in the hands of the individual and promote complete self-reliance. They promote self-empowerment and taking complete responsibility of your own recovery.
Morningside Recovery’s Non 12 Step Recovery Treatment
SMART Recovery – Scientifically-based alternative to 12 step programs. This program helps clients make self-directed decisions, stay sober from drugs and alcohol and become more self-reliant in their recovery. As opposed to traditional treatment options, addiction is treated as maladaptive behavior and clients are taught they have the power to change it. This is accomplished by helping clients to build and maintain a motivation to stay sober, develop effective coping skills to fight cravings, live a balanced lifestyle and learn how to manage their feelings and behaviors.
Motivational Enhancement Therapy
Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) – Designed to help clients to recognize and build their personal strengths. Therapists will work individually with clients to establish goals for themselves and promote self-motivation to change their old behaviors. This treatment is comprised of several therapy sessions to motivate clients to keep a positive attitude about their abilities and to move forward with their life. This is a continuous process that teaches clients techniques for expressing themselves, changing perspective, learning to roll along with resistance and learning to be completely self-sufficient.
How Do I Know If a Non 12 Step Program Is for Me?
There is no one-size-fits-all method for recovery. While traditional 12 step methods have been around the longest, there are other effective alternatives that help many people to overcome their addictions, find peace within themselves and build the life they’ve always wanted.
