Just because you don’t drink or do drugs anymore doesn’t mean that you can’t party like a recovery rockstar! With great friends, fun activities, and delicious snacks, you can have the time of your life and throw a party that everyone will remember! To help you plan, we have great tips on what to do.
Keep Recovery Rockstar Company
One of the biggest parts of being a recovery rockstar is having rockstar friends and family. Before treatment, many people have friends who participated in drug use with them. An important part of treatment and relapse prevention is keeping those people out of your life, or at least telling them not to do it around you.
Instead, surround yourself with loved ones who will party sober with you and know how to get you our of situations. If you go to a restaurant or club, these people will help get you out of scenarios where you’re at risk for relapsing.
Tailor the Menu
If you’re throwing a recovery rockstar party of your own, you’re in control. Don’t feel obligated to serve alcohol. In fact, you can make the party BYOB or entirely sober! Ask friends and family not to bring any kind of alcohol if you’re not comfortable having it there. Additionally, you can make mocktails that are just as delicious and fun as alcoholic cocktails.
Stay Out of Tempting Situations
As mentioned, situations such as parties, clubs, and bars can carry heavy risk for relapse. You should only enter those situations if you feel confident you can remain sober and with trusted loved ones who can help you. If you’re not comfortable in those situations, you can still party like a recovery rockstar!
Instead of going to public places, have a night in with your closest friends or find other sober activities in your area. Hiking, state festivals, and concerts are all examples of situations where you can have fun without any alcohol. Recovery doesn’t mean your fun is over; it just means you have to be a creative recovery rockstar!
