Day 1:
Big Bear here we come. After a quick breakfast stop and our bodies full of calories we set off on our first hike of the trip to summit Gray’s Peak. One of Sierra Club’s top 100, we summited the peak and enjoyed 360 degree views from an amazing 7,920 feet above. We made it into camp in the late evening and feasted on bbq food and enjoyed a warm fire as the temperature had dipped below freezing. Exhausted we climbed into our warm sleeping bags and fell asleep.
I was free to explore and be somewhat spontaneous, which is out of character for me, because I felt safe.

Day 2:
We headed down to the lake with fishing licenses and poles in hand as we went fishing on our 22 foot pontoon boat. Fishing is a great test of patience and we were definitely tested. Four hours and no fish later, we went for a swim and headed back to shore. We shared stories and ate SMORES before hitting the sack for an early morning rise.
Day 3:
Mount Bertha was calling our name so we searched her out. At the base of the mountain the climb looked intimidating and it turned out to be exactly that. At the tip top of the mountain (8,520 feet), we rested in the warm sun where we noticed a small metal box covered with rocks. Our curiosity got the best of us and we opened it up to find year’s worth on letters and cards from others who had summited before us. We spent some time reflecting our thoughts onto paper to add to the box before we began our descent. In the evening, we walked down to the shore with our headlamps and took in the glorious constellations and the magical Milky Way.
Day 4:
We woke up early and enjoyed the sunrise from the shore. Sunrises are truly magical experiences and were appreciated by all of us. Later we headed over to Action Zip Lines. We got geared up in harnesses, helmets, and gloves for our safety presentation before we set out on our zip line tour. The afternoon was spent zip lining down the mountainside. The zipping was a blast! With our adventures completed, we drove back to Newport Beach. We all made it back safe and sound, a little bit more enthused, and with a tighter bond from our shared experiences.
