The Morningside Adventure Program went on a Big Bear Mountain adventure for an exciting weekend of snowboarding, skiing, and hiking.
Big Bear Mountain Adventure: Day One
Every great adventure starts with a good breakfast. Our first stop was the legendary Teddy Bear Restaurant. We enjoyed nutritious homestyle cooking in the cozy mountain restaurant. It was the perfect meal before a long day playing in the snow.
After breakfast we headed to Snow Summit Skit Resort. It was 50 degrees and the sun was shining. Everyone had a blast on the slopes no matter their skill level. Some stayed on the bunny slopes to learn how to ski or snowboard. Others made their way to the top of the mountain to shred down advanced slopes. Everybody stayed safe and had a good time. That night we all pitched in to make a lasagne dinner and played board games.
We started the next day of our Big Bear Mountain adventure with a two-mile hike up Castle Rock Trail into more remote areas of Big Bear. We encountered giant trees, babbling brooks, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain views. After the morning hike we played miniature golf surrounded by pine trees. In the evening we feasted on barbecue steak, vegetables, potatoes, and salad we prepared as a group. Then we played more board games and snuggled up to a good movie.
On Sunday we slept in, made eggs and bacon, and packed up for the journey home. We felt sleepy but satisfied with an adventurous weekend in the mountains.
