Dual Disorder Treatment

Treatment of dual disorders is the specialty at Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach, California. It’s what we do best.

If you’re an alcoholic or a drug addict, there are thousands of recovery centers nationwide that offer help. But if you suffer from a mood, thought or anxiety disorder in conjunction with an alcohol or drug problem, the field of reliable, successful treatment facilities narrows dramatically.

The difference between what Morningside Recovery has to offer and what other rehabilitation facilities have to offer is this: They treat chemical dependency on a primary basis, giving mental health issues the back seat. We embrace a total recovery model – treating mental health issues on an equal basis with drug and alcohol dependency. It’s that simple.

Morningside Recovery has a comprehensive program that is designed specifically for you. Each client is treated on his or her own merits, which results in an individualized, personal approach to the assessment and then the treatment of dual diagnosis. If you decide to become a part of our dual disorder treatment program, there are a number of offerings from which to choose. A comprehensive assessment that will include an in-depth psychological assessment will help determine which of these modalities will work best for you in your recovery.

Among the offerings available to you:

  • Initial assessment
  • Medically assisted detoxification (if needed)
  • Individual plan of treatment
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy several times a week
  • Ongoing medical consultation
  • Family sessions
  • Equine therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Meditation skills
  • Art therapy
  • Psychodramas
  • Aftercare

What does this mean to you? It means an individual treatment plan that is tailor-made for your specific requirements. You receive comprehensive psychological and psychiatric assessments, followed by an education in the management of non-pharmacological symptom management. Morningside offers one of the most progressive medication approaches in the industry. Every patient receives regular and ongoing intensive psychotherapy to develop skills they can use to manage symptoms associated with their dual disorder.

During your initial evaluation period you will receive an in-depth psychological assessment. The results of all testing will guide our interdisciplinary staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and chemical dependency counselors to create an individualized plan of treatment based on your current scope and the severity of your dual disorder. Once your individual treatment plan is complete, it is ready for you and our team to put it into action.

Your family is a big part of the recovery solution offered at Morningside, with client and familial input becoming an integral part of the assessment and treatment planning process. During family week (one weekend a month), you and your loved ones will have the opportunity to participate in individualized family therapy with your own Morningside therapist. There are also family sessions, group sessions and lectures from leaders in the addiction field – often covering groundbreaking therapy. And your family will see the importance we place on learning life skills so that you can become productive once you leave our premises and return home.

The purpose of family week is to seek, to identify, process and rectify much of the damage that occurs within families as a result of untreated addiction and/or mental illness. In addition, families will be introduced to the activities that make up your week. These include group therapy, individual therapy (multiple times per week) individual chemical dependency counseling, initial and ongoing psychiatric management, individual and ongoing medical consultation, as well as supportive therapies such as equine therapy, acupuncture, meditation skills, art therapy, psychodramas.

Morningside is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week program. The average stay for dual diagnosis treatment is 90 days, with a minimum 30-day commitment to be accepted into our community. If you or a loved one is suffering from a dual disorder, give us a call.
