Psychiatric Stabilization Center

Mental Illness StabilizationIn many cases, families struggle to find inpatient stabilization and treatment for a loved one with a mental illness. Often, a family can only secure a short stay in a hospital psychiatric unit for the patient. Research has found that these 24 to 72 hour stays are too short for successful stabilization and treatment of many mental health issues. Patients often find themselves back in the hospital multiple times with the same issues. With this in mind, Morningside’s clinical team has developed psychiatric stabilization and longer-term treatment options. Whether coming in from a psychiatric hold or seeking relief from a mood disorder, our mental illness stabilization and treatment programs provide everything a client needs for success in battling mental illness.

At Morningside, effective psychiatric stabilization lays the groundwork for healing the mind, body, and spirit.  During stabilization each client is treated as an individual with their own unique, customized plan.  Psychiatric and psychological testing is administered to obtain or improve upon diagnoses. Routines are established and the psychiatric team makes a diagnostic evaluation, discussing family history, and getting a complete history of symptoms. Clients develop connections with other clients and therapeutic alliances with our highly trained staff. After an accurate baseline is established, the experienced and compassionate clinical staff sets up a map for each client’s unique process of recovery. This client-centered approach creates the comfort and safety necessary to truly begin healing.

Physchiatric Stabilization UnitThe primary directive during early stabilization at Morningside Recovery is safety. All clients are monitored around the clock by our highly trained medical and psychiatric staff. Stabilization is much more than simply beginning a course of antidepressants or mood stabilizers. Our upscale facilities and beautiful housing provide a serene and peaceful environment that encourages healing on many levels. Stabilization also includes therapy, therapeutic education, learning relaxation techniques and peer support groups, all of which help the client acclimate to their recovery. In addition, clients receive instruction and support on nutrition, in recognition that eating well is an essential part of feeling better in lasting recovery.  Clients learn how to include the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals in their diet.

Our stabilization standards and phase goals were developed by experienced clinicians to ensure a level of care that exceeds treatment standards.  In this early phase of recovery, clients begin to gain control of their thoughts and feelings and develop a sense of self. The stabilization phase of treatment also begins to provide hope and understanding to the client’s family and friends.  Everyone involved begins to see the path to recovery by understanding mood disorders and mental illness.  Stabilization sows the seeds for permanent recovery through personal growth and hope for a brighter future.
