Drug Treatment Center History
RECOVERY BEGINS WHEN ONE ALCOHOLIC TALKS WITH ANOTHER ALCOHOLIC SHARING EXPERIENCE, STRENGTH AND HOPE…

Jeff Yates, Founder, Morningside Recovery
JEFF

If you were to read the history of most Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers, more than likely that history’s starting point would have resulted from the founder practicing the 12th Step of Alcoholics Anonymous ~ that is: “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

And so it is with Morningside Recovery, as Jeff Yates made the decision to reach out to other alcoholics by first opening a 17 bed “sober living house” in 2002.  This decision followed what seemed like an impossible road to recovery marked by such life-critical events as: being kicked out of high school in 1984, to finally dropping out of high school in 1986, to failed attempts at jobs and relationships, to multiple admissions at drug and alcohol recovery centers, to arrests and jail time in Honduras, to multiple DUI’s and then finally being court-ordered on February 28, 1996, to jail for one year to be followed by nine months in an extended care treatment facility.  When the judge spoke to Jeff that day, Jeff listened. He has been sober ever since.

JILL

You should not be alarmed by Jeff’s personal recovery story, because it is truly one of strength and hope, one shared by many in recovery. It is a testament to his resolve to find sobriety, practice a program of recovery, and to make positive decisions for his life and positively impacting those around him.  Following his marriage to Jill in 1998, Jeff completed his high school GED and was accepted to the University of Southern California, ultimately graduating with a BA in History in 2002.

Jeff and Jill worked together to open the sober house, offering convenient and affordable sober housing for those adults discharging from other treatment facilities. For more than two years they managed their sober home facility, offering accommodations in a simple apartment building, with an on-site manager to facilitate on-going recovery, coupled with 12-Step meetings and drug testing, as needed. The Yates soon realized however that many people coming to them for sober living did not have a strong enough treatment background or recovery skills to deal with the new-found freedom of living in an apartment.

Jeff and Jill Yates began to make plans to offer extended care residential treatment, specializing in dual-disorders, and in July 2005, they welcomed their first client to this “next generation of extended care treatment programs”.  The following is a timeline of important milestones of Morningside Recovery…

Today Jeff and Jill Yates are committed to refining their programs to assure quality of care; and providing a strong staff to assist all who come to Morningside.   They are working for the successful recovery of the next generation...
