Marijuana Treatment Facility
Marijuana Rehab Center

With the growing use of marijuana worldwide, access to effective marijuana treatment has never been more important. The results of research into the effects of long-term cannabis use on the brain are not available yet, but research has shown marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory. Smoking Marijuana Daily: Marijuana smokers who use every day may be functioning well below their peak intellectual level. Perhaps more alarming are the consequences for individuals with a dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorder. For these people, chronic marijuana use can be the catalyst that triggers genetic or environmental vulnerabilities to schizophrenia or related disorders. The extreme THC content of today's modern marijuana can produce an acute psychotic reaction, or trigger the onset or relapse of anxiety disorders or schizophrenia in vulnerable individuals.

Morningside Recovery is well-suited to deal with all of the variables when delivering marijuana treatment. The compassionate staff recognizes that long-term marijuana users are dealing with a withdrawal syndrome that includes irritability, sleeplessness, anxiety, and depression. The clinical staff is well-versed in the latest research studying how the user is affected by marijuana, which includes the parts of the brain involved with pleasure, memory, thinking, concentrating, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement. We understand that staying free from marijuana requires comprehensive marijuana treatment, because the addiction to marijuana definitely meets the rubric for severe addictions: compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the known harmful effects upon functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities.

To achieve freedom from marijuana addiction, and command the tools neccessary to prevent using marijuana again, Morningside emphasizes educational seminars -- and individual marijuana therapy sessions and group addiction therapy sessions. These are vital since clients are not isolated in a “mountain retreat” far from any city. We believe that marijuana treatment should take place in a real world environment with real-life situations. Clients exercise at local fitness clubs, and go food shopping with our nutritionist, who provides advice and insight on proper eating and diet. Clients also participate in mindful meditation on the beach, and also clients receive acupuncture treatment. These are just a few aspects of our group education and group addiction therapy, which are conducted by licensed therapists, using a curriculum that is research and evidence-based.

Clients who are physically able are encouraged to engage in meditation and exercise, which releases natural feel-good neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters help ease feelings of depression and anxiety, while sustained activity tires the body, helping with insomnia. Perhaps the most important part of our treatment program is relapse prevention. Clients work hard to get clean, and our evidence-based approaches such as cognitive based therapy (CBT), have proven effective in the battle against marijuana relapse. CBT is reinforced by group therapy, individual counseling, 12-step and non-12-step support groups, and participation in Morningside’s alumni meetings.

Moreover, a recent study demonstrated that marijuana dependency is perhaps best fought by experiential therapies, which are a Morningside specialty. We offer yoga, tai chi, rock climbing, psychodrama, dance, and much more -- including our Adventure Therapy. We want all of our clients to succeed and offer a comprehensive plan of action, including a transitional work program, academic support services, and career counseling.

Marijuana treatment is all about developing the life skills necessary for relapse prevention, anger management, and serene living. The total Morningside experience is all about serenity and hope. Hope is also the all-important fuel of families. With this in mind, Morningside’s staff works hard to keep the family updated. “We really are there for the clients and their families. I personally answer calls 24/7,” said Kyle Marcotte, Community Director at Morningside Recovery. “Each client is assigned their own addiction case manager who they meet with regularly to discuss treatment plans, progress and other issues that come up during marijuana treatment. We know the world doesn’t stop while clients get well.”
