Cocaine Treatment Program
Morningside Recovery has successfully treated hundreds of clients who were once at the mercy of cocaine. This is accomplished by offering a comprehensive cocaine treatment program customized for each client. It is our belief that recovery should occur within a vibrant community instead of an isolated retreat. In this way, clients deal with daily living such as going to the gym or the beach, yet remain secure from immediate temptations.
The goal of Morningside Recovery is to relieve the suffering that led our clients to compulsively use cocaine. Our philosophy is that there is always hope for a long-term recovery -- no matter what the addiction or diagnosis. Morningside’s cocaine treatment program features an ongoing, comprehensive assessment of a client’s needs. This process includes ongoing psychiatric and psychological assessment to keep pace with a client’s current status and help the treatment team to maintain a dynamic, individualized cocaine treatment program. Clients are assigned a case manager, a trained chemical dependency counselor who leads them through the process that we call Phase I.
Phase I includes assignment of a primary therapist. Morningside’s therapists rely on Eastern and Western philosophies, incorporating therapy and meditation. Individual and group sessions focus specifically on the needs of the client. These groups are facilitated by clinical psychologists and are intended to allow the recovering addict to focus on emotional management, triggers and dealing with any lingering consequences of previous behavior. In addition, clients can access other professionals within the local healing community.
Major emphasis is placed on educational seminars and individual and group therapy sessions that concentrate on real-life situations someone might run into after they complete their cocaine treatment program. Group education and group therapy are conducted by experienced therapists, using a curriculum that is research-based. For example, Morningside therapists are experts in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Research has demonstrated that CBT is particularly effective for treating cocaine dependence for the following reasons:
- CBT has been evaluated in clinical trials and evidence points to the practical nature of CBT’s “thinking tools” as well as its effectiveness with individuals with co-occurring disorders.
- CBT is structured, goal-based, and focused on the immediate problems, which appeals to cocaine abusers who have failed in 12-step programs.
- CBT is a flexible, individualized approach that can be adapted to a wide range of clients.
- CBT is compatible with a range of other treatments the client may receive, such as pharmacotherapy.
- CBT’s broad approach covers the important common tasks of successful substance abuse treatment.
Perhaps the most important part of our cocaine treatment program is the fact that all phases of treatment are predicated on clinical necessity. Clients continue to meet with their addiction case manager on a weekly basis to discuss their cocaine treatment program, progress and other issues a client might face. Following Phase I, individualized addiction treatment continues to equip clients to stay clean by offering vocational services and academic counseling. Recovering cocaine users learn to deal with temptations that arise, avoid triggers, meet their personal goals, and get their life back.
