Morningside Academic Institute
Sober Learning, Greater Recovery
Too often, the bureaucracy of registering for classes, waiting in line at the bookstore, or even parking hassles dissuade otherwise eager students. Morningside Academic Institute (MAI) solves this problem by making it easier for clients to meet their education and treatment obligations and goals. We have relationships with many institutions, including the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise, Irvine Valley College, Orange Coast College, UCI Extension, Centaur University, Newport Mesa Unified School District, and University of Phoenix, just to name a few. We help clients receive high school diplomas or GEDs, then continue on to higher education. Also, clients can discover their passions and obtain certificates in various vocations. Our past success speaks for itself, with clients who came from all over the country now currently attending or graduated from Chapman University, UCI, UCLA, CSU and many more.
MAI offers various avenues as entrances to the program. We have the ability and the resources to meet the client’s needs, regardless of past failure or success. In some instances it may be appropriate for a client to take a small course load at a local community college while focusing more on therapeutic services, while someone else may be ready for a more challenging course load and a gradual transition into full-time academic status.
The Academic Institute: pre-enrollment basics
- Preliminary Assessment: includes an educational interview to determine the student’s academic strengths and weaknesses; transcripts are reviewed and the student is provided with an Enhanced Career Assessment Inventory
- Application: to assess the client’s compatibility with the college program
- Approval: Treatment team’s approval of application
- Initial Academic Assessment: after preliminary consultation and acceptance to the program, students receive a thorough academic assessment
- Strategic Academic Action Plan: an individualized treatment and academic proposal is created for each student, including classes, school lectures, appointments, recovery meetings, and more; this plan is continually reevaluated and updated throughout the program
